Smo 254 is a super austenitic stainless steel alloy, therefore it exhibits outstanding resistance to corrosion. The alloy contains about 6% molybdenum in its alloy. Molybdenum is an element that has been associated with a high pitting resistance. In an environment that is prone to corrosion by oxidation, the presence of molybdenum in the smo 254 flanges enhance the performance of the passivating oxide layer formed on its surface. This is possible due to the high content of nickel in its alloy, without any changes in its mechanical properties. Resistance to Chlorine induced Stress related corrosion cracking as well as resistance to crevice corrosion is the other important properties of this alloy, apart from excellent resistance to pitting.
