Flanges produced according to standard Sae J518 are typically ferrous based, which means they are generally made from either carbon steel or stainless steel. Specifically speaking the carbon steel grade used in the production of these flanges is ST52.3. This grade ST52.3 Sae J518 Flange is known to have high mechanical strength. With good weldability, the material has tensile strength properties that range between 490 Mpa - 630 Mpa.
This steel contains manganese, giving it superior impact resistance. The impact resistance of Sae J518 4-bolt Flange remains high even in environments with sub-zero temperatures. Although this material contains carbon and manganese as alloyants in their chemical composition, it is ductile, making it relatively easy for the manufacturer to produce a grade ST52.3 ISO 6162 Split Carbon Steel Flanges Aside from this carbon steel alloy, the other ferrous material used in the manufacturing of these flanges is grade 316 stainless steel. An austenitic alloy, this grade is also known as a marine grade because they have excellent resistance to sodium chloride, and brine solutions. Grade 316 Sae J518/iso 6162 Flange works well in elevated temperatures without losing both its mechanical strength as well as its resistance to corrosion. Since the content of chromium here is about 16% and a max of 18%, the material can undergo passivation. The passivate oxide layer formed on the surface of the Sae J518 Code 62 Flange gives it resistance to oxidation even at elevated temperatures. While stainless steels that contain a higher content of carbon tend to be susceptible to intergranular corrosion at high temperatures, welding this grade is possible by reducing its carbon content and increasing the content of nitrogen to balance out the loss of strength in grade 316 Sae J518 Split Flange.
SAE Flanges are made to SAE J518/ISO 6162 standards and are designed for hydraulic applications. SAE Flanges are otherwise called code 61 flanges or code 62 flanges. These 4 bolt flange connections are demonstrated, leak-free connections, particularly appropriate for huge size high-pressure applications. As a result of the o-ring seal design, SAE flanges furnish connections with a sensible assemble torque range.
