IS 6392 is a specification used to produce steel flanges in piping systems. These pipes are intended for service in sectors like the oil and gas industry, water, steam, and air. The Is 6392 Flange Table 5 is also used to construct flanges that meet the requirements of the chemical processing industry. The materials that may be used by manufacturers include both carbon steel and alloy steel.
Though the use of said material depends on the operational temperature of the environment. In an environment whose temperature reaches a high of 450°C, carbon steel fasteners are used with IS 6392 Flanges. However, if the temperature exceeds 450°C, the bolts and studs typically used would be an alloy steel. But the nuts used to fasten these bolts and studs could be produced from carbon steel. In addition to the material, the specification for the Is 6392 Table 11 Flange includes other details like testing, dimensions, markings, tolerance as well as the preservation and packing of these flanges. Since these flanges are used in multiple applications, they need to have high strength, even in higher temperatures. Carbon steels are alloys that have a higher level of carbon on their chemical composition, thus, they deliver a good performance at elevated temperatures. Furthermore, they have high tensile properties, especially high hardness, which is useful in the oil and gas industry, where the pressure levels are high. Piping systems in the oil and gas industry carry around hydro-carbon based compounds of varying viscosity. The viscosity combined with a high velocity of the media traveling causes high levels of pressure. The pressure is further increased if the piping system has to be terminated. Using carbon steel or alloy steel to produce the Is 6392 Blind Flange takes off some of the pressure because the material is strong and durable.
