rade 12.9 material is a high tensile steel alloy. Amongst the metric class, these fasteners have the highest tensile strength, which is why they are often suggested for highly demanding applications. In fact, the tensile properties of Grade 12.9 Bolt exceed those of grade 8 as well. The good mechanical properties of the material are attributed to factors like chemical composition and heat treatment.
This alloy steel is quenched and tempered to optimize these properties. Quenching imparts hardness to the alloy. Tempering the alloy, on the other hand, reduces the hardness such that the material used to make a Class 12.9 Threaded Bar remains tough, and not brittle. The tensile strength of this material is valued as high as 1242 Mpa. As a type of low alloy steel, the chemical composition of this grade includes the significant addition of elements like chromium, manganese, molybdenum, and boron. Along with these elements, the chemistry of Ht Grade 12.9 Material includes trace quantities of phosphorous and sulfur. So the uses of these fasteners are typical in applications that need to be free from tamper, such as drives. Or they could be seen in heavy duty applications like securing engines. Since this alloy is alloy steel, these Grade 12.9 Studs arent suggested for applications that require high resistance to corrosion. However, like most conventional fasteners available in the market, it is possible to surface treat them. Some methods to improve the corrosion resistance properties of the High tensile 12.9 Grade Allen Bolt include coating by using a thin layer or rust proof oil, electroplating or galvanization, or painting the fasteners. The most common technique used on the Grade 12.9 Hex Bolts includes plating with zinc or chrome.
